| Artists in the Schools |
Artists in the Schools (AIS) is a program which places professional artists, dancers, storytellers, actors and musicians in classrooms at the request of, and in collaboration with, principals and classroom teachers. AIS provides support to local schools to help strengthen students’ arts experiences in pre-K – 12th grade settings. Priority is given to funding stipends for professional artists to establish instructional collaborations with classroom teachers.
The program focuses on week-long residencies (five days at five hours daily), but can also cover shorter residency periods and special projects. Funding is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Residencies and projects require a brief final report that details the scope of the residency or project, number of students served or impacted, and photographs and other documenting materials. Teachers and principals are requested to send a brief note to the Henderson County Board of Commissioners (1 Historic Courthouse Square, Hendersonville, NC 28792) about the project and thanking them for this public support. |

| Grassroots Grants Program – North Carolina Arts Council |
In 1977, the North Carolina General Assembly established the Grassroots Grants Program to ensure that every citizen had access to quality arts experiences. The Arts Council of Henderson County serves as the Designated County Partner to administer Henderson County 's arts allotment from the State, which is determined by population. Five percent of the allotment must be utilized to fund minority or underserved populations.
The funding supports a variety of arts and cultural activities every year, including community festivals, concerts, theatre productions and arts in education programs. Organizations receiving funds must match each grant dollar received. Funds from this program are distributed to a variety of local arts organizations serving the citizens of Henderson County through a competitive grant process.
The grant cycle is July 1 through June 30, which is the State of North Carolina 's fiscal year. Applications are expected to be available in July, and a grant writing workshop will be scheduled in August. The deadline when applications are due to The Arts Council of Henderson County will be announced in the Summer. Awards will be announced in October.
